A garden planted on Prinsestraat.
Bustan means orchard in Arabic — and that is exactly what Khalid and Nour Al-Rashid wanted when they opened these doors in Den Haag in 2017. A place where abundance is quiet, and every plate carries the memory of a grandmother's courtyard in Ramallah.
The family came to the Netherlands in the early 2000s, settling in the Schilderswijk before finding their home in the city centre. Khalid cooked for years in their apartment kitchen, feeding neighbours and friends, before Nour finally said: enough — let's open a table for everyone.
Today Bustan occupies a narrow townhouse one street from the Mauritshuis. The menu changes with what arrives at the market each morning. Nothing is frozen. The bread is baked at noon. You are welcome to stay as long as the tea holds out.
